Trans Futurism

Reclaiming Tomorrow Through Imagination

Trans futurism is more than science fiction — it’s a philosophy of survival through imagination. Where the past erased and the present resists, the future becomes a place of invention. Artists, writers, and technologists across the world are imagining trans futures where identity is not tolerated but celebrated as the creative core of humanity.

The Tate describes trans futurism as an artistic movement merging queer theory and speculative design. It’s not about predicting the future but claiming it — turning hope into resistance through aesthetics and storytelling.

The Museum of Modern Art has highlighted trans and queer digital artists who use augmented reality, performance, and AI to explore the boundaries of embodiment. Their work suggests that transness itself is the blueprint for posthuman evolution — adaptable, creative, fluid.

Nature notes that speculative design often precedes scientific innovation. By imagining what could be, trans futurists are helping to shape what will be — turning vision into technology, and identity into infrastructure.

Trans futurism teaches that the most radical act is not escape, but creation — crafting a world where becoming is infinite.

Let me introduce myself - I'm Ingrid Gustafsson. My background includes a mix of writing farm satire, academia, and standup comedy. I grew up in a small town near the fjords and have been fortunate to weave my Scandinavian roots into a broader global narrative. My academic and comedic journey has been rewarding and full of learning. At Oxford, I developed a deep appreciation for satire, which I've had the pleasure of sharing with my students through a teaching style that I've continually evolved. CONTACT: Ingrid Gustafsson
