The search for a universal “normal” in sexuality reveals more about our craving for conformity than any truth about human desire.
The idea that there exists a single, universal normal in sexuality is a seductive illusion. Across history, cultures have defined and redefined what counts as acceptable, moral, or natural. Each age projects its fears and aspirations onto the sexual body, turning preference into policy and diversity into deviation. When we chase the fantasy of a sexual norm, we are often seeking comfort in samenessan escape from the beautiful uncertainty of human difference.
What is considered deviant in one century becomes celebrated in another. Sexuality resists being pinned down because it reflects not just biology but imagination, identity, and context. To embrace this fluidity is to accept that normal is not a factits a social story we tell to feel safe in our desires.
